Hyundai Kona EV

In the Indian EV market for the first time, Hyundai introduced an electric SUV. There is no other EVS that can compete with this one because it is built in and designed as futuristic EV cars for India in this price range. The Hyundai-Kia Global B platform is used in the construction of the Kona EV, which is the first electric SUV “Made in India.”

Despite its small size, it looks sporty thanks to its wide stance, long wheelbase, and short overhangs. The Kona’s front end is where all the action is, with the LED headlights below and the DRLs above the headlights. The Kona has a flattish grille with graphic elements and a charging port in one corner rather than the family’s cascading grille. It has the appearance of an SUV due to the subtle cladding on the sides and skid plates in the back. The Kona Electric is an elegant vehicle that will stand out from the crowd overall.

Engine

Let’s take a look at the engine that powers the brand-new Kona Electric. A not-so-conventional permanent magnet synchronous electric motor with 100 KW (136 HP) and a whopping 394 Nm of torque lies beneath that conventional hood. Additionally, you can select between Comfort, Sport, Eco+, and Eco driving modes. In Sport mode, the electric vehicle responds instantly and there is no lag. The sensation of speed is obscured by the silence of the electric motor, but acceleration is surprisingly quick.

It drives around town on 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 215/55 R17 tyre sections, and the braking system is handled by disc brakes on all ends. The Kona’s handling and ride have been improved by Hyundai. The international model’s ride and handling are optimized for all terrain types. The Kona has excellent high-speed stability for its size and handles well over rough terrain. On the highway, the steering feedback gets worse as you accelerate, and the handling is well-matched to the power. For city driving, the light steering and soft suspension make it easy.

Exterior

The Kona will not be seen often on our roads, and its contemporary design will certainly draw attention. It has a sloping nose with dimples that lead to the enclosed radiator grille in the front. It also has slim headlamps that are connected by a thin bar above the grille. Additionally, the charging port can be found directly in front of the Hyundai logo. The sharp belt line and muscular bonnet, both of which contribute to the SUV’s somewhat masculine crossover appeal, merit mention. The raised tail gate adds some bulk to the rear section, and the LED tail lights that are tapered off to the side look cool.

Interior & Features

Inside the lodge, it’s just tire commotion that can be heard; That much finer. In the middle, the infotainment touchscreen is mounted on top of the dashboard. There is no gearbox; Instead you get an electronic shift-by-wire system with buttons for each gear. One-touch paddle shifters behind the steering wheel are a nice addition to the new Hyundai Kona Electric model. The Kona Electric will come to a stop if you press the paddle shifter on the left for some time. Everything feels solidly assembled, and the fit and finish are excellent. The seats are supportive and comfortable, but there could have been more leg room in the back.

Connectivity features like battery information and energy flow In addition, you get a start/stop button, a power-adjustable heated and ventilated front seat, an electric sunroof, and other features. The seats in the back are not as supportive and comfortable as the front ones.

Top Speed, Battery Range

Its ARAI-tested range is 452 km, and its faster-than-average 0 to 100 km/h time is 9.7 seconds. And even after passing 100 km/h, there is no decline as the speedometer smoothly explodes through 150 km/h. The Kona feels like it can go no faster than 150 km/h, which is an incredible speed for an electric city commuter.

A 39.2 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery is available. That is a huge number, especially considering that the Kona will be largely utilised for city transportation. The Kona Electric maintained its charge nicely and still had enough of battery life after a few laps around the racecourse. In terms of charging, a 7.2 kW Level-II charger takes 6 hours and 10 minutes to charge a device to 80% when utilising a DC rapid charger with a CCS Type II charging connector.

Colours Options

The Hyundai Kona EV SUV is available in five exterior color options. They include Polar White, Phantom Black, Titan Gray with a roof of Phantom Black, Fiery Red with a roof of Phantom Black, and Polar White with a roof of Phantom Black.
